What the Sawyerville Work Project has meant to me is not something I can fully explain through words, but is something that has shaped my life and belief system, and continues to do so.

This project, this camp, is like a prayer: it was born out of need and is sustained through a courageous kind of love.

It issues forth from many people with hopeful vision and a spirit of service.

It exemplifies the definition of vocation: Where the world’s deep need meets a person’s deep desire.

I think most people deeply desire to be a part of something beautiful, and the Sawyerville Work Project is just that.  It is beautiful and bold, messy and magical, harrowing and healing.

In my perspective, it is a ministry that the Diocese and the Black Belt can be truly proud of and one that is worthy of our best efforts.
